Military > popular all-time > The USS Freedom is longer than a football field, yet fast as a Jet Ski.

Navy officials say the ship represents the future of aquatic warfare with its nimble navigation.

The 3,100-ton warship traveled more than 50 mph when it steamed into the Port of Cleveland this week. It is the first of the Navy's new Littoral Combat Ships, which are vessels designed to carry the fight right up to an enemy's shoreline.

The Freedom is making her way through the Great Lakes, up the St. Lawrence and then on to a year of testing and evaluation in Virginia. Along the way the ship is stopping at about a dozen U.S. and Canadian cities.

Military > popular all-time > The well worn tailhook of one of the American F/A-18 Super Hornets from VFA-122. Pay close attention to the differences inside the afterburner exhausts of this F/A-18 to the same thing in the Canadian CF-18 photo coming up. I am not sure what all those retangular inserts are used for in the American plane.
