Tradewinds 04, which is held 14-27 April 2004, is a multinational exercise conducted to strengthen the capabilities and cooperation of the participating nations, with a focus on disaster response, maritime interdiction operations and basic military skills. It includes participants from 17 nations, including Antigua-Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Netherlands Antilles, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, the United Kingdom and the United States. The exercise is hosted by the Armed Forces of the Dominican Republic and sponsored by US Southern Command. The US Coast Guard Commander Atlantic Area (USCGCOMLANTAREA) is the executive agent for the Maritime Phase, and US Army South (USARSO) is the executive agent for the ground phase. Norfolk, Va. (Apr. 29, 2004) - Sailors assigned to Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek's Special Boat Unit Two Zero (SBU-20) recover a Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat (RHIB) platform just after splashdown. The RHIB was deployed 2,000 feet above the Atlantic Ocean from a United States Air Force C-130J Hercules assigned to Rhode Island's 143rd Airlift Wing. The airlift deployed two 11-meter RHIBs during a maritime craft air delivery system exercise, reaching the unit's milestone of 50 successful airdrops.
