Military keyword > sec > Pvt. John E. Patton (in center wheelchair with "X" marked on left leg).  Fort Riley, Kansas, circa 1919.  John Edward Patton enlisted in the Army at Globe, Arizona, on April 27, 1918. He served in France with the American Expeditionary Force as a Private in Co. E, 355th Infantry, 178th Brigade, 89th Division, seeing action in combat during the battles at St. Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne. He was badly wounded by gun shot at Meuse-Argonne and was eventually honorably discharged on June 21, 1921, at Fort Sheridan, Illinois, following prolonged treatment of his wounds.  He was awarded the Purple Heart (retroactively) and the Victory Medal with battle clasps for Meuse-Argonne and St. Mihiel and Silver Star lapel button.
