Amenah traveled to Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., in January to receive surgery to correct a congenital heart condition. She was the first of three children who have received the surgery. Families either stayed in their homes or left to live with friends and relatives in nearby towns during the operation.  It is common for Iraqis to have many relatives living within a short distance.
