China Lake, Calif. (Sept. 7, 2005) Ð A pilot assigned to Air Test and Evaluation Squadron Nine (VX-9), looks out the canopy of his F/A-18F Super Hornet as he conducts a low pop-up maneuver above the south end of Panamint Valley near China Lake, Calif. The aircraft was performing tests on the Shared Reconnaissance Pod System (SHARPS) prior to fleet-wide dissemination. Military keyword > pilot > The pilot of the Collings Foundation B-24J Liberator "Witchcraft" - Caroline Collings - converses with Lt Col (Ret) Edward "Red" Weir, who was a B-24 navigator in WWII, with 25 combat missions to his credit.  A former B-24 pilot (in the wheelchair) can be seen in the background inspecting this rare bird, the only flying Liberator in the world.
