The Royal Welch Fusiliers, currently on patrol in Southern Iraq have been tasked to safeguard the oil infrastructure focusing on the area surrounding Az Zubyr. They are currently based at Az Zubyr Port, which is situated south of Basra city, near the Kuwait border.
The Fusiliers were formed in 1869 and wear the Hackel associated with Fusilier regiments on their berets. They are currently situated at Aldershot Garrison but will shortly be departing for Northern Ireland for six months.
They have been responsible for patrolling around the oil pipelines and refinery's in order to prevent sabotage against the infrastructure and keep oil flowing out of Iraq in order to bolster the country's economy.
When they are not out on patrol, they like to throw around the odd rugby ball, much to the locals amusement.
